# Configure your Slack notifications

[Notifications in Slack](https://slack.com/help/articles/360025446073-Guide-to-Slack-notifications) keep you informed of the work you care about, whether you’re at your desk or on the move. Use the steps below to customize your desktop, mobile, and email notifications.

**Note:** If you’re having issues with notifications, visit [Troubleshoot Slack notifications](https://slack.com/help/articles/360001559367-Troubleshoot-Slack-notifications) for help.

### How notifications work

- By default, you’ll receive notifications on desktop and mobile (if you’ve [downloaded the Slack iOS or Android app](https://slack.com/downloads)).
- You can decide whether to receive banner notifications on desktop or mobile, and adjust your default settings to be notified about **Everything** or **Mentions and direct messages**.
- If you choose to only be notified about [mentions](https://slack.com/help/articles/205240127-Use-mentions-in-Slack) and [direct messages (DMs)](https://slack.com/help/articles/212281468-Understand-direct-messages), you can [set exceptions](https://slack.com/help/articles/360056534254-Manage-notifications-for-specific-channels-and-direct-messages) to be notified about everything in certain channels or DMs.
